Updates to the Statutory Sick Pay form (SSP1) for ineligible employees
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has updated its SSP1 form for those who do not qualify for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
The current statutory amount for SSP is £99.35 per week, which can be paid for up to a maximum of 28 weeks.
To be eligible for SSP, employees must:
- Have an employment contract and have done work under this contract.
- Have been sick for 4 or more consecutive days.
- Earn an average of £123 per week before tax over eight weeks (or less if they don’t have the full eight weeks’ service) prior to their absence.
- Have proof of illness, and provided sufficient notice when needed.
However, if ineligible for SSP, employees have the option to apply for Universal Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance, or the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
Therefore, this version of the SSP1 form gives updated contact details for these options when SSP doesn’t apply.
It is therefore important to ensure you’re using the correct form.
You can find the updated form on the GOV.UK website, which you can access when you click Employer form SSP1.
