Following the details of the Employment Rights Bill released last year, there is now confirmation of the plans to extend the time limits for individuals making a claim to tribunal.

Previously, for the majority of tribunal claims, a claim must be made within three months of the event taking place.

However, the Government have confirmed that they intend to extend this period to six months for all claims, including discrimination and unfair dismissal claims.

This change is expected to increase costs and administrative burden for employers.

It is not yet known exactly when this increase will take place, however, employers will need to review data retention policies to identify whether these need extending in line with the increased time period.
