The HSE has engaged with contractors to carry out compliance spot checks to see if businesses are following coronavirus rules.
They are checking that businesses are adhering to the covid government guidance so checking that staff are wearing face coverings, hand sanitiser is available, temperature checks are being completed and social distancing is in place.
Importantly though, these contractors are not warranted, officers.
This means that they don’t have the same powers as HSE inspectors in terms of enforcement.
If they find an issue they will report this to the HSE who will then follow up for any enforcement action.
And no one wants a visit from the HSE as they may look more widely than the original remit!
The coronavirus pandemic has certainly not stopped HSE enforcement action against businesses considered failing in health and safety standards.
